Golf courses impress guests and members with steel
Look at modern golf clubs. No one uses wood anymore. Top drivers are now made of metal, and the improvement in irons can take your game from amateur to pro. Better materials have revolutionized the game. Pre-engineered steel buildings are doing the same for facilities at golf operations.
Golf season is well under way for another year. As duffers and more serious players enjoy a beautify day out on the course (a good walk spoiled as is often quoted), they might not consciously recognize the value good buildings play. Smart superintendents and golf course general managers do.
Guest experience is one of those critical factors that make a round of gold so special and pleasurable. From the moment golfers register for their round at the pro shop, grab a sandwich and beer at the clubhouse or pick up their cart, top-notch facilities leave a lasting impression.
How many times have you played an amazing course and then be disappointed by sitting in an uninspired out-of-date or rundown 19th hole. Instead, imagine sitting in comfort at a halfway hut patio or in a modern facility with all the amenities that impress guests.
After all, the success of many golf tournaments and events rely on attracting successful business people and potential members or donors who should ideally walk away desiring to experience more of what the golf club venue and its team have to offer.

How steel buildings are on par for golf operations.
Golf courses need a variety of key structures
Traditionally, most golf courses go “all in” on building an amazing showpiece clubhouse (for member events, dinners and weddings), while the others get ignored or slowly deteriorate. Staff are relegated to storing gear and repair carts in dilapidating wooden structures that are drafty, damp and prone to pests (rodents and insects). Equipment and the resources to maintain a proper golf course are expensive. All those seeds, soils and fertilizers crucial to creating an optimal golf experience are delicious meals if not protected by metal. Banks use steel in their vaults to protect what’s most valuable to them and their clients, so why shouldn’t golf operations do the same?
What about using wood building systems anyway? Aren’t they more affordable? Not exactly. For the same cost as a timber structure, going with steel makes more sense. Once you get to a practical building size (such as dimensions in the range of 40’x80’), the engineering and construction costs between metal and wood becomes similar. At larger sizes, steel becomes the much lower cost solution.
The main benefit advantage of pre-engineered steel building systems comes in their long-term strength and cost savings. They don’t require maintenance or painting and are more durable and resistant to wear and damage (such as the occasional stray golf ball). Grounds teams and golf course staff should spend their time creating challenging and beautiful course conditions and layouts, not repainting a shed or replacing missing or rotting boards.
We don’t need to extoll the benefits of steel buildings for golf operations. Professionals do that for us. Read our article from Greenhills Golf and Country Club in London, Ontario about the importance of good facilities for food and beverage, storage and workshops.
Steel buildings allow greenkeeping teams to focus on what’s most important
Making a golf course pristine and gorgeous is hard work and takes a lot of time. Time is best served focusing on the items that make a golf day more enjoyable or increase revenues. Steel buildings can help do that by saving time, protecting resources and enhancing guest experience. Adding or expanding facilities with pre-engineering steel buildings is a long-term and affordable investment that create lasting value. And a great return on investment.
